Opening Day Reminders

The Fall 2017 season kicks off on Saturday, September 10, 2017.  Please keep the following in mind as the new season beings.

1.    Uniform Sale.  Shirts and a limited number of shorts and socks will be available for sale on Saturday at St. Therese Field, beginning before the first games on Saturday morning and running through the end of the day, or until supplies last.  Christine Rager, our Uniform Manager, will be parked in the parking lot, between the U12 and U8 fields.  She will likely have a dark red minivan.

2.  Jewelry/Shin Guards/Uniforms.  We need your help for things to run smoothly on Saturday. Remember, all players must wear shin guards, and those shin guards should be covered by socks (the socks are necessary to keep the shin guards in place and to cover sharp edges on the shin guards). Players should not wear jewelry.  Refs at U8 and U12 games will ask players to remove jewelry.  Make sure you know what color your player is wearing (and it is always a good idea to have the opposite color shirt in your car, just in case).  Schedules are available on this website (hover over Schedules at the top of the page and click on Inhouse Schedules).

3.   Parking.  To be blunt, parking at St. Therese Field, particularly on Opening Day, is usually a mess.  Too many cars, not enough parking spaces.  Please consider parking in the Steel Valley HS or St. Therese Church lots or on Miller Ave. and walking to the field.  Please do not park on the access road leading to the field.  That is a fire lane and you run the risk of getting towed.  If you choose to park at St. Therese, DO NOT (a) park near the entrance, on either side, as cars can't get in or out; (b) park along both sides of the path leading to the parking lot, so that cars and pedestrians can get through; you can park along one side (the side closer to Miller Ave.) but, again, not too close to the entrance; and (c) do not double park or park other cars in.  We have to be able to get cars in and out, give pedestrians room to walk, and leave enough space so that if, god forbid, we need to get an ambulance on the field.

4.   Smoking and Dogs.  Smoking is prohibited anywhere at St. Therese Field, and dogs (or other pets) are not allowed at the field (except for Service animals).

5.    Trash.  Please put your trash in one of the two trash cans (by the snack stand or in between the U12 and U8 Fields), or take it with you.  Do not leave trash on the field.  That applies to all trash, but in particular, it applies to water/energy drink bottles.  And if you throw a drink bottle in the trash can, we'd appreciate it if you would make sure it is empty (dump the contents in the weeds at the edge of the field before putting the empty bottle in the trash).

6.   No Climbing on Goals. Do not allow your children to climb on the big soccer goals.  The goals are not jungle gyms.  While the goals are anchored (they are chained to the ground), we do not want to run any risk of children falling off the goals or the goals falling on the children.  You risk you child being seriously injured or even killed if you let them climb on the goals.  So please do your part and tell your children not to climb on the goals.

7.    Seating.  Please make sure that you place your chairs sufficiently off the playing field so that players have room for throw-ins or go after balls before they go out of touch.  For U12, seating for fans is only on the parking lot side; the other side is reserved for players.

8.    Lost and Found.  There are often items left behind at the end of the day.  They've ranged from cell phones to glasses to keys to chairs to blankets to jackets to hats.  But most often, they are balls and water bottles.  Things that are found are placed in the pod.  Feel free to check the pod for your lost item the following week, when it is open for the games.  If the item has not been claimed within two weeks, we typically throw it out (water bottles, for example) or donate it (soccer balls in reasonably good shape).

Best wishes for a safe and fun season.  As a reminder (or an introduction), please see our Parents Code of Conduct. which can be found at Policies on the right side of the home page under Helpful Links.
